TransferLab Adds Brazilian State Championships

Brazil’s oldest football competitions, the State Championships, are newly available on TransferLab, as our cutting-edge scouting platform continues to grow its coverage and add new features.

In addition to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, B and C (all of which were already on the system), teams and players from the major State competitions the Campeonato Paulista (Brazil’s oldest organised football competition, started in 1902), the Campeonato Carioca, the Campeonato Catarinense, the Campeonato Gaúcho, the Campeonato Mineiro, and the Campeonato Pernambucano are now searchable on TransferLab, adding hundreds of players from this hotbed of talent development.

While Brazil’s State Championships have lost some of their standing since the 1970s and 80s, when they were arguably the nation’s preeminent footballing contests, the competitions are still fiercely contested. Crucially, they also include teams such as Esporte Clube Água Santa (Paulista) or Central Sport Club (Pernambucano) who feature in Série D. For clubs scouting in Brazil, including our partner club Grêmio, who recently won their own State Championship the Campeonato Gaúcho, this depth and range makes TransferLab a crucial component of their efforts.

All this means it is now possible to view players previously undiscoverable in TransferLab. Looking at a Best XI of the Paulista, for example, shows players such at Inter de Limeira’s goalkeeper Walef or Água Santa left back Rhuan sprinkled in with top performers from the bigger clubs, such as Santos, Palmeiras and São Paulo.

Looking at Rhuan’s profile (although with a small sample of 331 minutes), we can now compare him to other full backs in the Paulista by their metrics in that competition, which obviously includes players from Brazil’s other tiers. Player performances against clubs of the level of Santos or Palmeiras can be a useful indicator that a player is ready to step up.

It is important to note that players from clubs who are also in Brazil’s Série A to C (all of which were already in TransferLab) now have the competition’s minutes split out, adding depth to our ability to assess them as well. Here, for example, is the player history of São Paulo centre back Diogo Costa, showing both his minutes in Série A and the Paulista. This means we have a more complete performance profile.

This augmentation of available data from TransferLab follows hot on the heels of three important developments, the release of TransferLab v3, the integration of our cutting-edge ClubStrength+ model, and the incorporation of salary data into the platform.
