THE CHALLENGE

Leeds United’s Director of Football, Victor Orta, wanted to identify players who would fit the team’s style and help them achieve their goal of promotion to the Premier League.
Analytics FC’s algorithms identified Daniel James, who had played only a handful of matches for Swansea City, as a standout candidate.

Leeds United requested a sporting due diligence report to assess a potential transfer offer.

OUR APPROACH

Analytics FC provided a comprehensive report on James’ on-field contribution across a range of metrics.
The report included the use of advanced data algorithms to assess the projected goal scoring outputs for James, to help Victor Orta make an informed decision on whether to sign the player or not.

THE RESULT

Orta was able to propose to the board that James would be a good fit for Leeds United.
Though the deal was not completed at the time of the report (James ended up moving instead to Manchester United), Leeds continued to enquire about him and finally signed him in 2021.

"They made a big report about expected goals and expected assists and they predicted he would finish the season with six or seven goals and eight assists, and it was a step that meant I felt more comfortable making that decision."
